When Karen Egeh’s family gathered to celebrate her mother’s life on a snowy day this January, they chose Burton Street Foundation as the venue for her wake. It was a bittersweet occasion, but one filled with warmth, reflection, and connection. Karen shared her gratitude for the experience, and we feel privileged to have been part of such a meaningful day.
“My family and I would like to say thank you so much to the team. The wake was the best end to the day we could have asked for. We had the opportunity to relax, eat, drink, reconnect with each other, and talk about Mum in comfort, which meant so much.”
Karen’s family made use of Burton Hall + Pub, where the flexible space allowed them to share photos of her mum and play her favourite music through our projector and sound system. The room was beautifully set up, and despite the snowy conditions, our dedicated staff worked tirelessly to ensure everything ran smoothly.
The catering team prepared a fork buffet with dessert, tea, and coffee for 20 guests. Karen highlighted how Debbie, one of our chefs, went the extra mile by providing takeaway boxes so the family could enjoy the leftover food later. With the bar open and plenty of room to mingle, the atmosphere was one of comfort and community, just as it should be.
