CAYPS - Children and Young People's Service

Welcome to Burton Street’s Children and Young People’s Service, a haven of fun and support for children with learning disabilities and difficulties. We provide supportive environments for children aged 8 to 18, offering sessions from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturdays during term time and school holidays (except Christmas), respectively.

In our fully accessible Bamforth Building, children have access to a range of activities tailored to their interests and needs. From free play to structured activities, our focus is on providing a nurturing environment where children can flourish. We prioritise individual attention by maintaining a small group size, allowing children to explore their independence or engage in group activities as they choose.

Saturday Club: A World of Possibilities

At our Saturday Club, we understand that every child is unique, and our aim is to make the experience as laid-back or as exciting as they desire. The Bamforth building offers a variety of spaces tailored to different activities, allowing children to freely explore and choose their preferred options. Sensory and messy play are perennial favourites, providing a delightful mix of exploration and creativity.

For those who enjoy culinary adventures, our bungalow kitchen is the perfect place to bake up some fun. The aroma of delicious treats fills the air as children experiment with ingredients and create tasty masterpieces. If a breath of fresh air is in order, our newly designed outdoor playground beckons, offering a safe and enjoyable space for play.

The arts and crafts zone is a haven for those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere. Here, children can immerse themselves in creative projects, showcasing their artistic talents. Meanwhile, for those with boundless energy, our soft play area and multi-use game area provide the perfect outlet for physical activity. And let’s not forget the ever-growing fancy dress wardrobe, encouraging imaginative play and endless costume possibilities.

Who We Cater To

At Burton Street, we understand that every child is unique, with their own set of talents, interests, and challenges. Our services are carefully designed for children with learning disabilities, who truly blossom in an environment that both understands and caters to their specific needs.

Our experienced team are not just facilitators but friends who foster a nurturing environment for your child’s growth and development. We make it our mission to ensure each child feels safe, understood, and above all, happy.

But don’t just take our word for it. Here’s what one of our many wonderful parents has to say:

“[My sons] are encouraged to do what they can for themselves and be self directed with their choices around activities. I feel my kids are encouraged to be as independent as possible whilst in your care. “

This is why we do it...

My son is 14 and has some complicated additional needs that mean his emotional and social interactions are challenging and require a trauma informed and skillful approach by those who care for him. At Burton Street his needs are wonderfully catered for with an understanding of the help he needs to regulate and manage his emotions during the time he is there. He loves the playfulness of the team who manage him with humour and care and keep him occupied with a great variety of activities that they plan together. He really likes that his carer is a young man, often the fabulous Sam, who he sees as someone who shares his interests (like playing on the xbox and shooting basketball hoops) and he can look to as a role model. I have been able to communicate easily with the team to ensure the sessions are tailored to his needs and enable him to feel heard, understood and relaxed on return to us. Burton Street is a great facility that my son loves to access during the holidays and we are grateful of their support for him.
