Focussed Support

Step into the vibrant world of Burton Street Foundation, where we champion Learning Disability Focused Support with passion and purpose. Our goal is to ignite self-confidence, unleash self-expression, and forge deep connections among individuals with diverse communication and support needs in Sheffield.

Focussed SUpport: for enriching Lives

Our primary goal is to cultivate self-confidence, inspire self-expression, and foster meaningful connections among individuals with complex communication and support needs in Sheffield. Central to our approach is the dedicated and creative efforts of our Focussed Support staff team, who design and tailor session activities to promote these essential aspects of self-development. By prioritising client-centeredness and inclusivity, we ensure that every session is a supportive and enriching experience for all participants.

Unleashing Creativity through Diverse Activities

Our Focussed Support programme encompasses a diverse range of activities carefully curated to cater to the unique needs and preferences of our clients. Through these activities, we aim to foster self-confidence, encourage self-expression, and strengthen interpersonal relationships. Here’s a glimpse into the experiences we offer:

Arts and Crafts:

Our arts and crafts sessions provide a space for self-expression through various mediums, allowing individuals to showcase their artistic talents and explore their creative potential. It’s all about the process, not just the end result, ensuring each participant can be as creative as they wish in their own unique way.

Music:

Our music sessions offer a harmonious platform where clients can connect through rhythm and melody, fostering a sense of unity and joy. Everyone creates their own music in their own way, and this diversity is celebrated and encouraged.

Sports

Embrace the thrill of physical activity in an inclusive environment. Our sports sessions are tailored to accommodate diverse abilities, ensuring everyone can participate and experience the joy of movement.

Dance

Let the rhythm guide you in our dance sessions, where individuals can express themselves through movement. Dance not only enhances physical well-being but also serves as a powerful medium for self-expression and communication. Drama sessions similarly enable clients to engage in inclusive activities, allowing them to build on their own self-expression

Yoga

Nurture the mind, body, and spirit through the gentle practice of yoga. Our inclusive yoga sessions promote relaxation, mindfulness, and physical well-being, offering a holistic approach to self-improvement.

Sensory Exploration

Embark on a sensory journey that stimulates the senses and promotes cognitive development. Our sensory activities are designed to provide a rich and engaging experience, catering to the unique sensory profiles of each individual. Water play, including swimming, adds a refreshing and stimulating dimension to our sensory offerings.

Rebound Therapy

Experience the benefits of rebound therapy, a specialised form of exercise using trampolines. This therapeutic activity enhances coordination, balance, and motor skills while providing a fun and energising outlet for physical expression.

Events

Our staff team creates imaginative events, such as Burton’s Got Talent Extra and Burton Street World Records, which allow all clients to have access to enriching experiences in their own individual way. These events foster a sense of community and belonging while celebrating the unique talents and contributions of each participant.

Client-Centered Approach

Central to our client-centred approach is the belief that empowerment stems from recognising and honouring the unique strengths and needs of each individual. Our staff members take the time to understand the preferences, abilities, and challenges of every participant, ensuring that session activities are not only accessible but also meaningful and engaging. Whether it’s adjusting the pace of an activity, providing additional support where needed, or introducing new elements to cater to evolving interests, we prioritise flexibility and adaptability to create an environment where every individual feels seen, heard, and valued. By fostering a sense of ownership and agency over their experiences, we empower our clients to take control of their personal development journey and achieve their full potential

Encouraging Self-Expression & Building Inclusive Relationships

We recognise the importance of self-expression in personal development. Our activities are crafted to provide opportunities for individuals to express themselves authentically, building confidence and empowering them to communicate in their own unique ways.

Community and connection are at the core of our philosophy. Our sessions are not just about individual growth but also about building inclusive relationships. We foster a sense of belonging and encourage positive interactions among participants, creating a supportive community.

What Our Team Think...

I began working at Burton Street in 2013 on a placement from Sheffield Hallam University. I have worked in adult services throughout my time here before my role as Focussed Support manager. I love the challenge of working out care plans and sessions for my clients, I take personal gratification seeing clients develop before my eyes. Before my work in Burton Street, I studied performing arts at Sheffield Hallam University.
Anna Whelan
Service Manager
When I started working at Burton Street as a project worker, I found it amazing how much Burton Street had to offer. I found the staff and clients so nice to get along with. There is a lot of creativity and positivity around and I'm fortunate enough to help lead a great team. The aim of putting clients first and making sure that they have a great time here is important.
George Kladakis
Team Leader
I joined Burton Street in 2022 as a support worker and I have recently become a team leader. I previously worked in rehabilitation which was very rewarding but now  I can't imagine working anywhere else. Every day is different and it is a  pleasure to be part of a team of people who help our clients get the most out of their time spent with us. We never have a dull moment but we always have lots of fun.
