Cupcake Day is a national initiative run by the Alzheimer’s Society, with the aim of raising funds towards the fight against dementia.
The Bamforth Building here at Burton Street is home to Alzheimer’s Society’s Sheffield office, so we were keen to get involved, do some baking and open our cafe to cupcake fans from across the community.
When the time came the sun was shining, Bamforth’s large sliding doors were wide open and the cafe enjoyed a lovely cool breeze as guests started arriving.
You could either buy one of our lovingly baked and decorated cupcakes, or for the more creative types there was a “design your own cupcake” table, where plain buns were provided and everyone could express their whimsical sides with piles of icing and lashings of sprinkles.
The whimsical theme continued with fancy dress, fun music and generally silly behavior, and at 3pm the event wrapped up with a handful of cupcakes left and everyone feeling just a little bit stuffed.
All funds raised from the event will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society. We see the fantastic work they do everyday with and for people with dementia, and we’re really glad to get involved and be a part of their fundraising activities.
